'Nightmare on Elm Street' Remake Teaser Trailer

The first official teaser trailer for the remake of Wes Craven's original "Nightmare on Elm Street" horror classic from 1984 has made its way online.

The remake stars Jackie Earle Haley as the notorious Freddy Krueger, taking over for Robert Englund who made the character famous in the original "Nightmare on Elm Street" movies.

The remake will not be exactly like the original because it will take a more serious tone and feature less of the comedic parody-like dialogue from Freddy. The synopsis of the film also suggests why Freddy may be acting differently.

"After being burned alive by a mob of angry parents, a pre-school gardener/caretaker named Freddy returns for revenge against the children, now 18 years old, that accused him of sexual abuse. But was Freddy a child molester or was he falsely accused? This is the central question and main addition to the film’s plot. Freddy doesn’t have many lines, but that isn’t all that surprising considering that the film’s producers have said the character doesn’t joke around."

Reading that makes you wonder whether or not he’s truely pure evil or if he’s seeking vengeance against those who committed evil upon him. I always thought that Freddy is supposed to be one of the most evil/demonic bad guys in cinema.

"A Nightmare on Elm Street" is directed by first-time filmmaker Samuel Bayer, who got his start directing commercials. New Line / Warner Brothers is bringing "A Nightmare on Elm Street" to theaters on April 30th, 2010.

It looks cool and it has a lot of the old iconic images from the original...but I definitely don't like the idea of Freddy being falsely accused. It's a new spin on it and it does give Freddy better motivation for going after the kids, I guess. But it's just not the same if he's "misunderstood".

I really hate when remakes or prequels come out and they end up "softening up" or changing what made the cold-blooded bad guys evil from the start. Bah!

It's just...Freddy has always felt like the most evil slasher out of all the horror films to me.

He was evil before he got his power to kill in dreams and he was evil after.

Now it might be that he was wrongfully accused (which made him become evil).

We'll have to wait and see...
