'Heavy Metal' Adds New Directors

"Heavy Metal" is based off the magazine of the same name and off of the 1981 classic animated film. The movie will most likely be animated again and will be seprated into several different segments with each telling a different sci-fi story. David Fincher ("Curious Case of Benjamin Button") is on track to be one of the many directors associated with the movie.
Film School Rejects recently caught up with TMNT co-creator Kevin Eastman and asked him if he had any updates on the new "Heavy Metal."
"I’ve got breaking news that Fincher and James Cameron are going to be Co-Executive Producers on the film," Eastman said. "Fincher will direct one. Cameron will direct one. Zack Snyder is going to direct one and Gore Verbinski is going to. Mark Osborne and Jack Black from Tenacious D are going to do a comedy segment for the film."
Fincher's plan is to get a total of 9 directors to direct different segments of the movie. It's an ambitious plan and if he did Cameron involved, then I'm truly amazed.
"Three other directors have agreed but we haven’t signed them, but they’re equally as jaw-dropping. So we’re on cloud nine to be working with such an amazing amount of talent," Eastman said.
After "Avatar" is finished it seems he might be moving on to this project and Marl Osborne ("Kung Fu Panda") teaming up again with Jack Black sounds like fun. And I can see Snyder ("Watchmen") and Verbinski ("Pirates o the Caribbean") directing segments too.

Update on Heavy Metal
The "Heavy Metal" remake is still in the works but finally some news on what status the film is currently in is out.
Now we finally have an update (via MovieWeb) from TMNT co-creator Kevin Eastman, who was one of the original directors rumored to be directing a segment for the film. In short, Eastman says to expect an official announcement in 30 days.
"Right now, David has a grand plan and he's asked us to sort of keep those cards close to our chest until the right announcement comes out, but what I can tell you is that part of the frustrating part of going through the studio system, which David knows more than Tim (Miller) and I. Guys like Zack Snyder and Gore Verbinski and Mark Osborne have committed to come on board and direct sequences in this."
"There are three other directors, that I can't tell you yet, but will be jaw-dropping when we can tell you. David has put together a program that is pretty outstanding and it's sort of fascinating for guys like Tim and I, who have worked at the studio level, at a number of levels, but never at a David Fincher level. Whereas we would've probably agreed to the deal seven versions ago, David is still negotiating and it's like, 'Oh my God, we just want to do this movie,' but, all kidding aside, that's why we're working with David."
"Not only does he have just a brilliant vision, and a great sense of storytelling but he's very committed to doing this right. We don't want to spend $50 million and not blow everybody out of the water with this project. I'd guess within the next 30 days would be the official announcement of what's going on and where it's going, and then we can talk again."
According to First Showing, "So what I understand is that, at least according to Eastman, it's still going to happen, sooner or later. What we don't know is whether or not all of the aforementioned directors are still on-board and/or who they'll be adding soon. I'm sure Fincher is not only fighting with the studio, but also trying to wrangle up some great directors. As a reminder, this iteration of Heavy Metal is supposed to be an 'R-rated, adult-themed feature.' And the multiple segments will be inspired by the erotic and violent storylines and images found in the magazine that this is based on. Hopefully that announcement does actually hit sometime soon."

Heavy Metal

"Heavy Metal" is a pretty awesome adult-oriented cartoon that came out in 1981. It is based off a comics magazine and was made into a cartoon about glowing orb that terrorizes a young girl with a collection of stories of dark fantasy, eroticism and horror.
It plays really cool heavy metal rock music during a lot of the animation and there is plenty of gore and nudity. If you watch "South Park" then you might know about it. The episode where Kenny sniffs cat piss to get high takes him to another world where everything deals with boobs and has different animation. This is spoofing "Heavy Metal."
A sequel to the film was made but it had nothing to do with the original and instead tried to make a plot while keeping music, gore and nudity. To say the least "Heavy Metal 2000" was nothing like the original.
Now it seems that Zack Snyder, director of "Watchmen" and "300," is teaming up with David Fincher ("The Curious Case of Benjamin Button") and Gore Verbinski ("Pirates of the Caribbean") to create a "Heavy Metal" for the new generation.
“‘Heavy Metal,’ is coasting,” Snyder told MTV News of the in-development project. “I don’t know what’s going to happen, I’m excited about it. I love ‘Heavy Metal,’ if that happens it’ll be great.”
When MTV News last checked in on “Heavy Metal,” they asked co-director Fincher if he had any particular stories from the original films or comic magazine he’d like to tackle, to which he mentioned that Snyder had already set his sights on one story in particular. MTV News decided to ask on what story ideas he wanted to include in the new "Heavy Metal."
“[Fincher, Verbinski and I] talked about certain segments, it’s nothing that you would know from the magazine,” hinted Snyder. “It’s a special little one-off thing but it’s pretty cool, that’s all I can really say about it.”
I will definitely be looking for more news on this film because the original "Heavy Metal" is just fun to watch and has influenced so many science fiction films including "Blade Runner" and "The Fifth Element."
