While being a big fan of the "Resident Evil" video game franchise (it's rare to find a game series where each successive game is as good, if not better, than the last), I am not the biggest fan of the film series.
Each successive movie in the series is worse than the last and I think they are really pulling out all the stops on this one. Big special effects, 3D, etc. Sadly, none of it really looks good except for Wesker. The main villain in the game series is really an ultimate badass and why he has been left out of the film series for so long is beyond me. And don't get me started on Alice...
How many things can they chuck at the screen to frighten us in 3D? And seeing as how "The Matrix" is one of my favorite films of all time, I can't help but see the massive similarities. Then again, some of Wesker's fights from the game series seemed to stem from that film as well.
In either case, if you haven’t been a fan of the franchise up to this point, it seems unlikely that this is going to change your mind. While the movies have featured numerous characters from the games, the story and atmosphere are wildly different. They’ve managed to turn one of the definitive examples of survival horror into a sci-fi superhero story.
"Resident Evil: Afterlife" opens in regular, 3D and IMAX theaters on September 10, 2010.

Movie News Rush 15
"Oz: The Great and Powerful"
The news - Sam Raimi is lined up to direct this prequel to the classic "The Wizard of Oz." Hopefully this will actually be a good movie instead of a full-blown 3D special effects film with little plot and terrible characters (as so many other films these days are). Robert Downey Jr. is rumored to play the role of the Wizard, but he has a lot on his plate what with two franchises to work on ("Sherlock Holmes" and "The Avengers"). Will he have time to work this film in?

"Resident Evil: Afterlife"
The news - A new trailer is out for the film that shows off some of the plot as well as some 3D gimmicks and special effects shots. I'm still reeling from the disaster that was the third film and how it got of ruined the image of the awesome video game series, so this might be a DVD watch for me.
"Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance"
The news - Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor are in negotiations to direct Columbia's "Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance," a sequel to 2007's film that starred Nicolas Cage as Johnny Blaze. Neveldine/Taylor are the writing and directing duo behind such films as "Crank" and "Crank: High Voltage." If you're wondering why this film is even still moving along, Columbia has until November 14, 2010 to get a sequel into production or the rights revert right back to Marvel and into Disney's lap.

"The Karate Kid"
The news - Since Sony's "The Karate Kid" remake with Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan earned an $56 million this past weekend (blowing past its $40 million budget), the studio is already thinking about sequels. Let's not forget that the original "Karate Kid" got not just one, but three total sequels, the last one arriving in 1994 with Hilary Swank taking over as the new student. Will this remake of the franchise follow down the same path? We'll have to wait and see...
Otherwise, it would be interesting if the sequel went in the direction of the video below.

'Resident Evil: Afterlife' Trailer Blows Up In Your Face
Sony has debuted the first official trailer for "Resident Evil: Afterlife," the fourth installment in the declining "Resident Evil" franchise.
Following 2007's "Resident Evil: Extinction," "Afterlife" is set in the same world ravaged by a virus infection, turning its victims into the Undead. Milla Jovovich returns as Alice as she continues her journey to find survivors and lead them to safety. Her deadly battle with the Umbrella Corporation reaches new heights, but Alice gets some unexpected help from an old friend. A new lead that promises a safe haven from the Undead takes them to Los Angeles, but when they arrive the city is overrun by thousands of Undead – and Alice and her comrades are about to step into a deadly trap.
The trailer's focus is on emphasizing the 3D technology they’re employing in the film, using the team and technology behind the 3D used in "Avatar." The film was shot in 3D, not converted into it in the post-production process, so it should have a better look than the "Clash of the Titans" remake. However, in the trailer below you can see they’ve gone for lots of deliberate shots of things heading straight at you. Subtle 3D it is not!
This looks as action cheesy as it can get, but I am amused by the fact that they chose to say in the trailer that this was shot in 3D. At least these guys know that converting to 3D is a bad idea! This makes "Afterlife" the first video game to film adaptation in 3D.
And being a huge fan of the RE games, I can say I am still uncertain about this film. Yes, the games have moved to different locales and the genre has become more action than horror, but I think the films have gone way too overboard. I'm glad they seem to be trying to go back to the the style of the games (by bringing in new characters and creatures), but it may be too late.
And someone needs to be told that the last shot in the trailer was ripped straight out of "The Matrix Reloaded." And why is Milla Jovovich performing the same action in every scene in that trailer (pulling out kunai, gun, sword, etc.)?

'Resident Evil 4' Release Date Shifts to September 2010
Last month it was reported that the upcoming "Resident Evil: Afterlife" had been pushed back to January, 2011 due to the process of making the film in 3D."Resident Evil: Afterlife" is being done in 3D by the same team who worked on "Avatar" and apparently the 3D process was taking longer than the studio initially anticipated, so director Paul W.S. Anderson got a bit more time for shooting. The release date originally was September 24, 2010, but the delay pushed it back to January 14, 2011.
In a turn of events, Shock Till You Drop reports that "Afterlife" is not only switching back its release date from 2011 to 2010, but also moving it forward two weeks from September 24 to September 10. On Twitter, Jovovich claimed the delay wasn’t definitive shortly after it was announced and now it appears she was right to say so.
This re-switching of dates will keep the franchise in tradition: the previous two "Resident Evil" movies were both released in the month of September to solid box office openings. The reason for the re-switch is unknown – it could mean that they’ve rushed the 3D process or that the 3D process might not actually take as long for this particular project. Whatever the reason, it means fans of the franchise can see it back in theaters sooner rather than later.
Then again. that is only if they still want to. As a big fan of the "Resident Evil" video game series, the first two films in the franchise entertained me in theaters. Watching the trailer for the third film (which showed the general lack of connection to any of the video games), I did not see the third film until after it was released on DVD. And as I expected, it was really quite terrible. I will have to be extremely wowed by a trailer for "Afterlife" to begin to even think about seeing it at all.
Thoughts on "Resident Evil 4" switching to a September 2010 release date? Do you plan on even seeing it after the disaster that was "Extinction"?
As stated, "Resident Evil: Afterlife" is now set to be released on September 10, 2010.

'Resident Evil 4' Delayed Until 2011
Those of you who are looking forward to the fourth installment in the "Resident Evil" franchise, entitled "Resident Evil: Afterlife," will have to wait a while longer before you get to see it. Shock Till You Drop has learned that studio Screen Gems has pushed back the fourth "Resident Evil" from its originally planned release date of August 27, 2010, until January 14, 2011.
Apparently the studio realized that the film, which is currently shooting and will be the first in the series to be presented in 3-D, would require a little more time in post-production than had originally been expected.
In order to fill the gap left by Resident Evil's move, Screen Gems has decided to release "Priest" in August of 2010. Starring Paul Bettany, and based on a comic book, Priest follows a warrior priest who teams up with a sheriff and priestess to fight vampires.
The interesting thing is that Milla Jovovich stated on her Twitter (also here) that "RE4" is not officially pushed back...yet.
"RE Afterlife IS NOT officially pushed. There have been talks of pushing it as they r not sure they can have it ready by july. We r trying as hard as we can to still meet the summer deadline though, so for the moment its still on for Aug."
Resident Evil: Afterlife will see the return of franchise lead Milla Jovovich, as well as Ali Larter, Spencer Locke, Wentworth Miller, Shawn Roberts, Boris Kodjoe, Kim Coates, Norman Yeung and Kasey Barnfield. It’s directed by Paul W.S. Anderson ("AVP").
What do you make of "Resident Evil 4" being delayed almost five months or do you believe Jovovich that they can still make next summer's deadline? Are you a fan of the series so far? Do you like that the next installment will be in 3-D?

'Resident Evil 4' Plot Synopsis
Screen Gems has released a full synopsis and cast list for the upcoming fourth installment in the "Resident Evil" franchise. Entitled "Resident Evil: Afterlife," the film is to be shot in 3-D and will pick up where the prior installment, "Resident Evil: Extinction," left off before the entire franchise circles back on itself for a prequel/reboot.Paul W.S. Anderson, director of the original "Resident Evil" will be back to write, produce and helm part 4, and star Milla Jovovich will be reprising her role as Alice.
Here is the full synopsis for "Resident Evil: Afterlife":
In a world ravaged by a virus infection, turning its victims into the Undead, Alice continues on her journey to find survivors and lead them to safety. Her deadly battle with the Umbrella Corporation reaches new heights, but Alice gets some unexpected help from an old friend. A new lead that promises a safe haven from the Undead leads them to Los Angeles, but when they arrive the city is overrun by thousands of Undead and Alice and her comrades are about to step into a deadly trap.
I wasn’t that big a fan of "Resident Evil: Extinction," so this next installment - despite the pretty 3-D hook - is probably going to be passed on by me until it hits DVD/Blu-ray. However, I did enjoy the first "Resident Evil," so I am rather looking forward to having the series go back to the start and explore what happened to the special unit originally sent in to quell t-virus outbreak.
As for the cast that will be filling out "Resident Evil: Afterlife," you’ll have the talents of Milla Jovovich, Ali Larter, Spencer Locke, Wentworth Miller, Shawn Roberts, Boris Kodjoe, Kim Coates, Norman Yeung and Kasey Barnfield.
What do you think of the premise and cast for "Resident Evil: Afterlife"? Will you be checking this sequel out, waiting for the reboot or are you eagerly anticipating both?
"Resident Evil: Afterlife" starts production soon and is aiming for a release date of August 27, 2010.

'Resident Evil 4' Adds to the Cast
"Resident Evil: Afterlife" is next on the directorial slate for Paul W.S. Anderson, who wrote the other two "Resident Evil" films that comprise the existing trilogy. I can't say I was the biggest fan of the original movie. Something about an underground lab run by the Red Queen rubbed me the wrong way. "Apocalypse" was fun for fans of "Resident Evil 2," the game, and "Extinction" brought Ali Larter as Claire Redfield and little else for video game fans as a greater Resident Evil conspiracy was teased.
An educated guess would be that "Resident Evil: Afterlife" will try to explain that greater mythology. We're getting our first hints as to what that will entail from Boris Kodjoe, an actor who can soon be caught on screen in "The Surrogates."
Kodjoe, who revealed via Twitter that he was in the fourth installment has spoken about his role, the storyline and the other cast members in the film.
Kodjoe told Blackfilm: "It's gonna be Milla Jovovich, Ali Larter, I'm the new one, and Wentworth Miller ['Prison Break'] is also in the movie.
"I play the leader of the survivors in LA. Milla Jovovich's character, Alice, is roaming the world looking for survivors and she's wound up in LA, which has been burning for three years. She comes across an LA jail surrounded be these half-dead [zombies].
"There's a couple of survivors and she lands on top of the roof and partners up with me to fight the guys that are coming after them. We're trying to get all of the survivors out of the jail to safety."
He said filming will begin next week in Toronto, and said he was a fan of the franchise and Anderson's directorial style: "He's a tremendous visionary, he's got all these great ideas. What I like most about him is that he's so excited about what he does.
"He's got it all worked out. He's working with them making new cameras that James Cameron's partner developed for 'Avatar.' All this stuff plays into this movie making it an experience I'm looking forward to."
So what about the Alice clones? Where is Wesker and will he be awesome? So many questions. But seriously, after the last movie I am kind of done with this franchise. They have moved so far away for the game plot that the films now bear little resemblance to what is Resident Evil. Besides, there's no Jill Valentine.
"Resident Evil: Afterlife" is set to be in 3-D and will be released on September 17, 2010.

'Resident Evil 5' To Be a Reboot?
Even though Sony Screen Gems is moving ahead with "Resident Evil: Afterlife" (which is to be 3-D, with the "Avatar" team handling the f/x), it appears that they’re already preparing for a fifth movie. But instead of continuing on the story already established, Bloody-Disgusting has exclusively confirmed that the studio is planning some sort of “quasi-reboot,” just seven years after the franchise began. The reboot has a tentative title of "Resident Evil Begins" and is said to be about a special military unit who are sent in to fight a, “powerful, out-of-control supercomputer and hundreds of scientists who have mutated into flesh-eating creatures after a laboratory accident.” Sounds just about the same as the plot of the first film, minus the main character of Alice (Milla Jovovich).
This news comes as a bit of a surprise since we recently heard that "Resident Evil: Afterlife" would kick off a new trilogy. How can the fifth movie be a reboot and yet still be part of that trilogy? Also, what will this mean for the franchise star, Milla Jovovich? She’s the zombie-killing hero of the franchise, and is synonymous with it in the mind of audiences. If the lack of mention of her character in the early plot description above is anything to go by, she won’t be in the film.
What do you think of this news: Is it too soon to reboot the "Resident Evil" franchise? Should they just continue with the ongoing storyline?
"Resident Evil Begins" is just in the planning stages at the moment, while "Resident Evil: Afterlife" is scheduled to hits theaters on Aug. 27, 2010.

'Resident Evil: Afterlife'
Bloody-Disgusting spoke to actress Milla Jovovich at the press day for "A Perfect Getaway." With the recent announcement of a September 2010 release date for "Resident Evil: Afterlife," Jovovich was asked what’s in store for Alice in the fourth movie and what the 3-D will mean for the franchise.
"I’m the lead role [again]," says Jovovich. "There’s the clones and it’s going to be a lot of work. I’m gonna be working every day for the next four months on this and it’s gonna be bigger than ever. It’s super-exciting."
The specifics of the plot are under wraps for now, but Jovovich tiptoed around the details to tell as much as she could.
"I would feel a little bit weird giving you too much information about the character," she said. "Let’s just say this. The clones are definitely in it. You’ve got multiple Alice’s kicking serious butt. And definitely the real Alice has some pretty major things happen to her that change the stakes a little bit. That’s probably all I can give you in a vague sort of way. It’s definitely going to be a different Alice than who we’re used to."
The same team that did the 3-D work on James Cameron’s "Avatar" will be working on "Resident Evil: Afterlife." For now, Jovovich is leaving that intense prep work to her husband, Paul W.S. Anderson, who returns to direct part four.
"I have no idea about the 3-D process. Paul just signed a deal with the people Cameron used on 'Avatar' because they impressed him the most. [Paul] has basically seen like every 3-D movie ever made in the last two months to prepare for it. We’re definitely using all the best equipment. All the storyboards are centered around how to make the 3-D the best it can be. We’re really trying to use that medium to its fullest."
In terms of whether this will be the final "Resident Evil" movie or if a part five will surface down the line, Jovovich said that’s up to the fans.
"You know, it depends," she said. "'Resident Evil' is one of those things that is very much based on how well the last movie did. The last movie ['Resident Evil: Extinction'] did very well, so of course the company wants to make another one. These films are very organic in that sense. It’s not like a 'Harry Potter' machine in the sense that it’s already this huge thing and they make three movies at the same time. For us, we make one movie, we give it an interesting ending and if the fans are like, ‘We want to see what happened. We want to see the next one’ and the studio gets enough mail and there’s web site interest then we’re like, ‘Yeah, let’s make another one.’"

Movies in the Works
RESIDENT EVIL 4ShockTillYouDrop.com spoke to Paul W.S. Anderson, who revealed that "Resident Evil: Afterlife" will be released in 3D and will kick-off a new trilogy!
Anderson, who will write and direct, said that the fourth film in the franchise will have the largest budget of all the films so far. "I always envisioned 'Resident Evil' as a trilogy of films," he said. "And we've been very lucky where it's a trilogy where the audience has built and built. I wanted to kick off a brand new trilogy. I'm really excited we're doing it [in 3-D] and we're using the same camera system [James] Cameron used for' Avatar.' There are a lot of exciting things about this one. I don't regard it as 'Resident Evil 4,' I regard it as a re-tooling and rebirth of the entire franchise."
Milla Jovovich will return as Alice in "Afterlife," opening September 17, 2010. You can also expect some returning characters from the previous films and new characters from the video games.
PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 4ComingSoon sat down with Disney's Head of Production Oren Aviv yesterday to talk about, among other things, the fourth installment of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise. And the news is very good. "We're going to shoot 'Pirates 4' in April and May of next year," Aviv said. "We are going to release it hopefully in 2011." "Pirates 4" would "hopefully be the first of another trilogy," he says, and would be shot by itself, not back-to-back again.
There's no word yet if director Gore Verbinski will be back again for "Pirates 4," but Aviv does admit that the whole franchise needs a bit of scaling down. "It's important to get the story right and it's important to me to scale it down, because we can't get bigger," Aviv said. "The movies have subsequently gotten bigger and bigger and very complicated and they were satisfying on so many levels obviously, but I want to kind of reboot the whole thing and bring it down to its core, its essence, just characters." One thing's for certain, Captain Jack Sparrow will be swashbuckling his way back into theaters again come 2011.

BATMANAccording to actor Gary Oldman, filming for the project known as "Batman 3" will begin next year.
"I think the next Batman is next year," said Oldman during Friday's Warner Bros. panel at Comic-Con in San Diego. "We start shooting next year. You didn't hear that from me."
While the news will no doubt get Bat-fans excited, there's still no official word on the much-anticipated sequel to "The Dark Knight." The likelihood of the film even happening has had doubt cast upon it by everyone from Christopher Nolan to Bruce Wayne himself, Christian Bale.

WANTED 2SuperHeroHype reports that Mark Millar has completed the script for "Wanted 2" and they're starting pre-production in eight weeks. James McAvoy is back as Wesley Gibsonand director Timur Bekmambetov confirmed that he is back and and that they're preparing to shoot in the next few months.
Timur mentioned that they're trying to "wake up" Fox, the character that Angelina Jolie played, and that she might return (but isn't confirmed yet). I'm sure Universal wants her back - I would argue she was one of the big names that made it such a success in the end. But how could she come back if her character died? Well, Timur says that she ended up in one of those healing wax baths - so maybe she didn't die...

'Resident Evil 4' in 2010
According to the folks over at Shock Till You Drop, we may have our confirmation that the long-rumored speculation of "Resident Evil 4’s" production is actually a go and that it would likely come out in 2010.An insider of theirs has confirmed that Sony is set to get Resident Evil: Afterlife ready for theatrical release by September 17, 2010.
In spite of what any of the talent involved in "Resident Evil: Extinction" said during the press tour (mostly, "this is the final chapter"), the film left the door wide open for a fourth installment.
Late last year, Paul W.S. Anderson revealed he was indeed writing another film. Capcom was getting involved. Everyone, as he said, was "excited."
Will Anderson direct? Unsure. Will Milla Jovovich be back? I think it would be safe to say yes considering the last entry ended on a major cliffhanger that could lead to anywhere.
Each film has goner further and further away from the canon of the games and basically ruined the franchise (I love the games and dislike each new movie). I think they should just do a reboot and start from the beginning with the characters from the game and follow the general plot of the video game series instead of just making more crud up.

Resident Evil 4 (Movie, Not Game)

According to JoBlo, "We recently reported on the impending RESIDENT EVIL 4 here and now we just got a couple of nuggets of info from a VERY RELIABLE source as to the production. Here are hints as to what we're in for!
Paul Anderson wrote the screenplay but he is not coming back to direct.
The screenplay is more akin to RE2 in terms of style, but with better dialogue. The overall tone is also very dark.
There's enough hand to hand fights in the script for them to bring in a martial arts choreographer.
Patrick Tatopoulos (R3) will be in charge of the creature effects and they will have a new Special FX supervisor (in terms of the the practical effects) - Michael Lantieri (JURASSIC PARK 3)
The script is complete (they're at Draft 2)) and they're going to start casting before making any more script changes.
So far, they will be filming in Toronto and Tokyo. Toronto will actually front for Alaska.
They will be hiring a director once they have Milla officially signed back on."
I thought the first "Resident Evil" film wasn't that bad even though it really strayed from the game by creating characters and following its own storyline. In "Resident Evil: Apocalypse," at least characters from the game appeared and it loosely followed parts from the games. "Resident Evil: Extinction" was just cr*p.
A good RE movie is "Resident Evil: Degeneration," but to completely understand it you might want to play the games (and it even leads into the fifth game, which comes out in March).
If they are going to follow along with the ending that was in "Extinction" (which was cool, but for RE, it just didn't suit the series), then I will be disappointed. I love Milla Jovovich as an actress, but I think her character has become unnecessary.
Until then, more news to come! Catch ya' later!

Bolt and Resident Evil
Bolt - I saw this movie and really enjoyed it. I don't know about the 3-D effect though. Felt kind of cheesy wearing those little glasses over my eyes, but is it just me or is every movie coming out in the next year or two coming out in 3-D?
Moving on from those strange facts, it was a well made animated feature. As good as "Wall-E?" Heck no. That is Pixar and will also rule that niche. But "Bolt" looked beautiful and told many stories of compassion, friendship and trust.
It is about a dog (voiced by John Travolta) who plays a superdog on a tv show, but thinks it is real. So when he accidentally escapes into the real world, he finds himself without his powers and in need of returning to his person, Penny (Miley Cyrus). Along the way he teams up with Mittens the cat and Rhino the hamster. Mayhem ensues.
A great film for kids and animal lovers, it has been on my list of movies I want to see for awhile because it just looked so darn cool. Turns out the film is kind of split into three acts. Act one is the introduction of Bolt's world, act two is his return home, and act three is fill with the major morals and return home. Kind of like "Homeward Bound," but not as good.
Still, it is enjoyable, but "WALL-E" kicks its butt in the contenders for Best Animated Feature.
7.5/10
Resident Evil: Degeneration - I love the "Resident Evil" games and can't wait for the next one to come out. So the movies have gone from okay to disappointing for me. To sum up the three live action films: pretty good, okay, bad. Each one kind of has a cliffhanger ending, so a fourth one can be made. I just hate how they screwed up the story by focusing on this character that doesn't exist in the games.
Anyway, let's focus on "Degeneration" here, which actually takes off from the games. It takes place in 2005, several years after the Raccoon City disaster and stars Leon S. Kennedy (a year after "Resident Evil 4") and Claire Redfield (returning from "Resident Evil 2" and "Code Veronica"). A zombie outbreak is on the loose again,, involving government corporations, the T-virus and the G-virus. So things get hectic.
To say this will please the fans is an understatement. The CGI is very lifelike and the voice acting is actually pretty decent and not cheesy. Many scares and gore among the zombie head shooting. Plus...there is a major Tyrant-like fight at the end. For those wanting RE5, there is definitely a lead-in with the major group that will be in the next game.
