"Hitman 2"
The news- Spanish helmer Daniel Benmayor is set to direct "Hitman 2" for 20th Century Fox although at this point it is unclear as to whether or not Timothy Olyphant will return as the bald assassin for another go 'round after the first film, which earned around $100 million worldwide on a $30 million budget. I consider the film to be a failed video game adaptation, so I don't know what to think about a sequel yet.

"Mass Effect"
The news - "Mass Effect" is probably my favorite Xbox 360 (I'm a sucker for RPGs and it is a great game), yet I'm not jumping for joy about a film adaptation...yet. Legendary Pictures, which will produce the project for Warner Bros, is in discussions with Mark Protosevich ("I Am Legend," "Thor") to draft a screenplay.

The news - Dominic Cooper ("An Education") is cast as Tony Stark's father, Howard Stark, for "Captain America." We got to see some of Howard Stark in the recent "Iron Man 2" played by John Slattery, but Cooper will be playing a younger version of the character and will most likely be working with Nick Fury in the film set during WWII.

"The Twilight Saga: Eclipse"
The news - below are some clips from the upcoming film. Sometimes I happen to watch a little but of my mother's soap operas when she leaves the television on (lord - I hate those shows) and these clips feel exactly like those bloody soap operas. The trailer showed how the film might contain action, but these clips are pure soap opera.
"Going the Distance"
The news- This trailer caught me by extreme surprise and you may find yourself loving it as well (though it is a rom-com). Starring real-life couple Drew Barrymore and Justin Long, the film follows a couple going through a long-distance relationship. Having gone through a few of those, this is a movie I (and many more) can relate too. And besides, the trailer is quite hilarious.

From Kung-Fu To He-Man

John Stevenson, director of the summer hit "Kung Fu Panda," was seen leaving the offices of "Matrix" producer Joel Silver, who has been trying to get "Masters Of the Universe" off the ground for some time now. Word is that Silver and Co. were very impressed with Stevenson’s take on the He-Man legend, enough so to take another crack at the stalled film.
Stevenson works more with animation than art design, so there is some thoughts that the new He-Man movie might be CGI instead of live action. And will the film still be called "Grayskull?" (A movie I spoke about a while ago here)
More news will have to come on this interesting set of news.

Some news about this week
Movies coming out this Friday! Plot summaries thanks to IMDB.
Soul Men - Though it's been some twenty years since they have spoken with one another, two estranged soul-singing legends (Jackson and Mac) agree to participate in a reunion performance at the Apollo Theater to honor their recently deceased band leader.
Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa - In the sequel to Madagascar, Alex the lion (voiced by Stiller) and his friends board an NYC-bound plane (that's been "repaired" by their penguin pals), only to find themselves touching down in the African plains. It's an opportunity for the animals to encounter their own kind for the very first time, and to discover, while various plots play out, what "home" truly means to each of them.
Role Models - Unsavory behavior forces a pair of energy-drink reps (Rudd and Scott) to enroll in a Big Brother program, where the duo learn, however reluctantly, to bond with their assigned kids.
Movies coming to DVD this week!

The sequel to "Kung Fu Panda" will once again star Jack Black, Angelina Jolie and other original cast members and will be directed by Jennifer Yuh Nelson, head of story on "Kung Fu Panda." It will be produced by Melissa Cobb. Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger, who wrote and co-produced the original film, will also be returning.

Summer Movies of '08 that I forgot
More movies from the summer that I forgot to mention. Not because they weren't good. it is just that my memory falters sometimes.
You Don't Mess with the Zohan - Some may expect Adam Sandler to try different humor, but he sticks with what he is used to. A lot of physical humor and senselessness. Also, who doesn't love Nick Swardson, Roy Schnieder, and John Turturro (who have all been in previous Sandler movies like Anger Management, though John Turturro somehow showed up in Transformers...)? Zohan delas with the Israelis and Arabs a lot and just pokes fun at accents and shampoo. The movie is not meant to be taken seriously, folks. It is meant for you to sit back and laugh, albeit only a few times. In the end, it is worth at least one watching. 6.5/10
Kung Fu Panda - I have to say, I watched this movie twice. It was enjoyable, with great animation and lots of funny dialogue. Not seeing Jack Black actually works since I find his voice to be funnier than his facial expressions. The fight scenes are just amazing. You may be thinking Matrix when you see them, but since it is all CGI, the filmmakers could definitely bend their imagination into the fight scenes. The story is interesting, about Po, the panda, being the dragon warrior, the one to save them all. The movie will leave you wanting to see more action and more of Jack Black pretending to get beat up! 8.3/10 Skadoosh!
Hancock - I saw the trailer and couldn't wait to see this superhero movie. And watching it for the first hour, hour and a half, it is truly enjoyable. Good jokes with good effects and lots of pure fun. Then the story takes a nosedive into a totally different movie that loses the laughs and loses the plot. The characters change from what they were in the beginning to what they were in the end. It is a superhero movie with a villain tagged on as a last thought. In the end, not my favorite of the hero movies of the summer. 5.7/10
More movies will be on the way. I am trying to get other people involved in this as well. I am one person and cannot see every movie out there. There are also some movies I will not end up seeing because they don't...well....interest me. So people, if you have seen a movie and there is no review for it here, then I will be happy to put up Guest Reviews. It is time to get involved!
