Sin City 2

With the recent build-up of projects that Robert Rodriguez has on his plate ("Predators," "Machete"), coupled with past comments of it not happening anytime soon, it seemed like the possibility of a "Sin City 2" was so far away that it wasn’t worth thinking about. And yet, in a recent interview with IGN, Rodriguez revealed quite the opposite: He’s already talking to some key players about the sequel.

While promoting the Blu-ray release of Sin City, Rodriguez gave an update on the progress of the long awaited sequel:

“People have been talking about Sin City 2 since the first one came out… Whenever I’m out and about, people say, ‘When’s Sin City 2 coming? When’s Sin City 2 coming?’ They’ve been asking that for years. So this probably will add to that, certainly.”

“I actually had a phone call with some of the players in it today, but I was on a plane so I missed it… So next week we’re going to talk about it some more and get a timing on when we’d be doing it. But there’s a lot of people who are interested in it… We are definitely going to do that one.”

As far as which of the original graphic novel stories the sequel would include, Rodriguez said A Dame to Kill For, as well as some other original stories that Frank Miller has come up with:

“There’s a lot of stories,” Rodriguez said. “That was sort of the approach I took to it. That’s why there’s three stories in the [first] movie, because I thought, ‘I love this material, but gosh, what happens if it’s not successful and I don’t get to make a part two and part three. I still want to see “The Big Fat Kill” and “That Yellow Bastard.”‘ So I wanted to put them all in one movie so I could at least get some of these stories out of my system. But there’s still so many books and so many stories to do.”

If the first “Sin City” film is any indication, fans can likely expect a script that spans several of the series’ storylines. Rodriguez admitted he made an effort to pack as many stories as he could into the first film in case it didn’t perform well enough at the box office to warrant follow-ups. Now that “Sin City 2″ is reportedly attracting the likes of Angelina Jolie and driving Miller himself back to writing Basin City, it doesn’t look like fans need to worry about being rewarded for their years of patience.

Jolie in Sin City 2?

Hey. This is post 500. If I started this blog on last Sept. 13, how many days has it been since then and what is the average number of posts per day? I'm not good at math, but I'll try and work it out.

On to the movie news!

Angelina Jolie is rumored to be having serious discussions with producers of the upcoming "Sin City 2." I hate rumors, but I loved the first "Sin City" and want to see the new one already.

According to Moviehole, "Jolie first spoke to Rodriguez and writer/co-director Frank Miller about the film in 2006. All went quiet on the project though, largely because the producers weren't ready to pull the trigger on the production, and all converse ceased. Now, according to my mole, the project has gathered steam and the filmmakers are trying to get Jolie to officially commit to playing the female lead.

Jolie would play the iniquitous Ava, the lead character in Miller's 'A Dame to Kill For' story. She’s the former flame of clean-living photographer Dwight McCarthy, and shows up and professes her love for him. When he finds out she's in way over her head, it looks as though trouble has found him. And he’d be right.

The project would reunite Jolie with her 'Beyond Borders' co-star Clive Owen, who’s loosely attached to reprise his role as McCarthy."

Who knows if this movie will ever get made. This is what happens when directors take on too many projects at once. Robert Rodriguez was planning on making a whole slew of movies and almost all of them fell through. Hopefully "Sin City 2" gets made in the next couple of years.

Sin City 2 Loss

Mickey Rourke, who played the big beefy Marv in "Sin City," might not want to return for a sequel.

According to ComingSoon.net, "At the junket for Darren Aronofsky's 'The Wrestler' in which Rourke gives a heartbreaking performance as Randy 'The Ram' Robinson, a has-been wrestler trying to go out in a blaze of glory," Rourke stated he wasn't very interested in being in a sequel.

"No, I'm not interested in that right now. That's not a reality right now. It's pissing in the wind," Rourke admitted. "There's different factions going different directions there. I don't know. That's three hours of make up and I'm claustrophobic, so I'm going to have to work something out."

"Sin City 2" would need Marv if they do the story "A Dame to Kill For," where he plays a minor role, but still, Rourke was a great Marv and I would like to see him return. But if he doesn't want to, heck, I'm not going to try and force him. He is a lot bigger than I am.

Do you want Rourke to return as Marv in "Sin City 2?"

Movie News Mash 2!

Another mash-up of movie news that would be too small on their own! A sequel for sequels! What do I mean by that? Read and find out!

"Hancock 2"

JoBlo got to talk with actor Will Smith while he was promoting his new film "Seven Pounds."

"When we asked Will if he'd ever be up for playing another superhero he replied that there were a lot of unexplored characters in the 'Hancock' universe that would be ripe for a sequel and confirmed that we'll definitely see the rumored 'Hancock 2' in a few years."

Are you ready for "Hancock 2?" I still think the first film was seriously flawed, so if they can fix things up I am all for it!

"Sin City 2"

IGN caught up with Frank Miller during a press junket for his upcoming "The Spirit" and they couldn't help but ask about the follow-up to the great comic-to-film adaptation "Sin City."

"Sin City 2 is written," Miller proclaimed. "It's mainly a matter of working out the details of the production. I'm hoping to do it with Robert Rodriguez again in the same circumstances that we did the first one, and we could be shooting as soon as April."

Does this mean that we could be seeing "Sin City 2" by the end of next year or the beginning of 2010? I sure hope so!

"Superman: Man of Steel"

UGO Movie Blog got to talk to director Bryan Singer on the phone to talk about Superman. After directing "Superman Returns," it was thought by many that Singer would return for "Man of Steel," but Singer says otherwise.

The phone conversation went like this.

JH: But there is talk of a new film, though. Are you officially involved in this talk of the new film?

BS: I am not officially involved in the talk, no.

JH: But when talk happens they’ll call you.

BS: Well it’s, you know, I have relationships with Warner Brothers and with the character and, and, and, and it’s just the way things work out.

JH: But you are not divorced from Superman at this point.

BS: No.

So there it is folks! Do you plan on seeing any of these movies? Are you excited for these sequels? I know I am (well....maybe not for the "Hancock" sequel...but there is potential).

The Spirit

Coming out during Christmas time is another comic-based movie, but this time it is directed by Frank Miller, the comic genius behind 300, Sin City, and most of Daredevil.
The Spirit is about a rookie cop named Denny Colt who returns from the dead as The Spirit, a hero who fights the forces of evil in his city. And if you haven't heard, he loves the ladies and the ladies love him.
Filmed in the same style as Sin City, the film is very eye-catching, but can it catch the attention of audiences this December? I think it has a very good chance.

And you can't forget about Samuel L. Jackson in there. No you can't.
