First Look at Scarlet Johansson as Black Widow

It looks like Scarlet Johansson's character will indeed sport a suit very similar to that of her comics counterpart. From the plunging neckline to the utility bracelets, the on-screen Black Widow looks as if she's taking more than a few cues from her comic book inspiration.

Along with posting the two official images, EW's PopWatch has also posted excerpts of interviews that shed some light on a few interesting elements of the project -- including Mickey Rourke's character and the between-films switch from Terrence Howard to Don Cheadle in the role of James "Rhodey" Rhodes.

"Terrence and I couldn’t be more different," said Cheadle. "We address it head-on in the movie in one exchange. We're not trying to fool people."

According to the report, Rourke's character "creates his own battle-suit, which shoots devastating, whip-like beams" while incarcerated in a Russian prison. This seems to confirm reports that Rourke's "Vanko" character will indeed be a mash-up of Crimson Dynamo and Whiplash.

Johansson enters the film as Stark's mysterious new assistant, Natasha, who has an alter ego of her own, Black Widow. That introduction inevitably sparks romantic tension between Stark and former assistant Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow), who's been promoted to CEO of Stark Industries.

"The men want it to be, like, 'Ooh, the girls are fighting over Tony,' but it's not as standard as that," Paltrow tells EW. "There's a weird male catfight fantasy."

Downey agrees, saying what differentiates the franchise from other superhero series can be summarized as follows: "We're horny. Not, like, can't-bring-your-kids horny, but just…horny."

With "Iron Man 2" having a major presence at next weeks Comic-Con, we’ll no doubt get some much better official images of her sporting the red hair and black leather suit very soon. In my opinion, she actually looks pretty good.

"Iron Man 2" opens on May 7, 2010.
