'Inception' Has a Mega Budget

$200 million. That's a lot of money for a movie. Warner Bros. are letting Chris Nolan do what he wants after the success of "The Dark Knight" and make a new movie that no one else knows about.

According to The Calgary Sun, Chris Nolan's "Inception" will be shooting up in Canada later this year (that is a picture of Fortress Mountain at the top). The article also mentions that the budget will be around $200 million - or closer to $176.5 million if that first amount is actually Canadian dollars.

To give an example, "The Dark Knight" cost about $185 million (that is still also expensive).

The Calgary Sun reports that Inception will be filming in five different countries, although a "significant portion" of it will be shot in Kananaskis, outside of Calgary in Alberta, Canada. "Nolan scouted nearby foothills and mountainous areas by helicopter and is said to have chosen Fortress Mountain as the main Alberta location." The shoot will employ "hundreds, if not thousands, of local film workers starting this summer when construction on the elaborate set is due to begin." Shooting is set to start in November.

The "Inception" script, also written by Nolan, has been kept under tight wraps although it has been described by Warner Bros. studio as "a contemporary sci-fi actioner set within the architecture of the mind.

"Inception" is slated for release on July 16, 2010.

Wow. That is muy expensivo. I'm sure a lot of that is for Leo's salary, but still I was expecting this to be a smaller $75-100 million type of movie--what is Nolan making with this one?

I know, seriously. What is this about to make it that expensive?

Hopefully we get some on-set photos later this year (or a teaser trailer) to show where the money is going.
