Box Office Results for the weekend!

1 Up $44.2 M

2 The Hangover$43.2 M

3 Land of the Lost$19.5 M

4 Night at the Museum: Night at the Smithsonian $14.6 M

5 Star Trek$8.4 M

6 Terminator Salvation$8.1 M

7 Drag Me To Hell $7.3 M

8 Angels & Demons $6.5 M

9 My Life in Ruins $3.2 M

10 Dance Flick $2.0 M

All this was actually expected. Thanks to the "Kids Rule" formula for films, "Up" delivered again. Why did "Land of the Lost" fail? Because it really isn't a kids movie (it is PG-13) and it is also a cheesy movie based off of a cheesy TV show from many years ago.

I expect "Pelham 1 2 3" to be the favorite for next weekend, though I expect "Up" and "The Hangover" to remain strong at the box office.

UPDATE: According to final box-office numbers released by Hollywood.com Box Office, an unexpectedly strong Sunday showing by "The Hangover" boosted the comedy to the top spot for the weekend box office with $44.98 million over $44.14 million for Disney/Pixar's "Up," which had held the No. 1 position in early box office estimates.
