Wolverine Running Time

Do superhero movies need to be long to draw out their full potential?

Not according to the new "Wolverine" movie, which is only going to be 107 minutes and 15 seconds (which is about 1 hr 47 minutes).

What I find interesting about this run time is what Fox chairman Tom Rothman said about the leaked version of the movie. (Geek Files)

"The version that went out is unfinished. It's about 10 minutes shorter, doesn't have key scenes, it wasn't edited, and none of the effects shots were in any remotely final form

"It's a complete misrepresentation of the film and is deeply unfair to the people who have worked on it for years."

According to people who have watched the movie online, it was about 106 minutes. So the difference between the final version of the film and the leaked version includes some CGI final edits and one minute of film. Heck, this could be part of the credits for all we know.

So should I say Rothman lied? I could...but I won't.

Other hero movies have been shorter while many others have also been longer. Let's take a stroll down super hero movie memory lane.

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer 91mins 44secs

X-Men 104mins 12 secs

Fantastic Four 105mins 26secs

X-Men Origins: Wolverine 107mins 15secs

Ghost Rider 109mins 53secs

The Incredible Hulk 112mins 5secs

Ghost Rider (DVD Extended) 118mins 17secs

Fantastic Four Extended Edition DVD 120mins 53secs

Spider-Man 121mins 20secs

Iron Man 125mins 47secs

Daredevil Director's Cut DVD 127mins 37secs

Spider-Man 2 128mins 6secs

X2 133mins 24secs

Spider-Man 2.1 Extended DVD 135mins

Hulk 138mins 7secs

Spider-Man 3 138mins 59secs

Batman Begins 140mins 55secs

Superman Returns 149mins 8secs

The Dark Knight 152mins 3secs

Watchmen 161mins 54secs

I know there are a lot of other "Batman" and "Superman" films from the past, but let's just focus on the last 10 years for this post.

Almost all of the films with short running times are from 20th Century Fox and are considered bad except for the first two "X-Men" films.

But length doesn't help either since "Superman Returns" and "Spider-Man 3" are considered to be pretty bad too.

"Watchmen" has received mix reviews.

So how will "Wolverine" compare to other hero films? More are on the way. Will they be "Dark Knight" long or "Elektra" long?
More news to come! Catch ya' later!
