Even More Iron Man 2 Rumors

Check out this bit of news from The Geek Files.

"British actress Emily Blunt is the frontrunner to play Russian super-spy Black Widow in the next 'Iron Man' film, reports Variety.

Blunt, aged 25, is most recently known for her role in 2006 film 'The Devil Wears Prada,' a comedy drama about life on a fashion magazine which co-starred Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway.

The actress is director Jon Favreau's top choice for the role of Soviet agent Black Widow, aka Natasha Romanoff, in 'Iron Man 2.' The character wears a skintight black costume enhanced by hi-tech weaponry. Blunt is pictured above on the left next to a comic book image of Black Widow.

The film, scripted by Justin Theroux, will begin production in the spring for release in May 2010.

As revealed earlier, Mickey Rourke is also in talks to play a Russian villain, possibly Crimson Dynamo or Whiplash, while Sam Rockwell is reportedly being cast as Justin Hammer, a multi-billionaire rival of industrialist Tony Stark, aka Iron Man.

Robert Downey Jr will reprise his role as the title character and the film will also star Gwyneth Paltrow and Don Cheadle."

Black Widow is Russian and Blunt is British, so it will be interesting if she can pull off the accent well. Some fans also don't see how there can be a connection with Black Widow to Iron Man. I don't think the connection will be between the two fo them, but that Widow will work for SHIELD, which will hopefully have a bigger role in the next film and will wind up bringing everything together for "The Avengers."

Blunt's next big role will be in the upcoming horror remake "The Wolf Man," starring Benicio Del Toro and coming out Nov. 6, 2009.
