Peter Sarsgaard ("Garden State") is in talks to play Dr. Hector Hammond in "Green Lantern," according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Hammond is the pathologist son of a senator who acquires psychic powers (telepathy and telekinesis) and genius-level intellect when exposed to radiation when he discovers a meteor.
As we all know, Ryan Reynolds is starring as Hal Jordan, the test pilot who finds a downed spacecraft with a dying alien who passes him a powerful ring, introducing Jordan to a interstellar police force known as the Green Lanterns. Blake Lively was recently cast as his love interest, Carol Ferris.
Of course, with casting for Hector Hammond underway, all that's left to cast seems to be Sinestro. As he is a major player in the comic I imagine he will show up, but who could play him?
"Green Lantern" is expected to begin filming in March and hits theaters June 17, 2011.
