Anthony Hopkins in Talks to Play Odin in 'Thor'

According to The Hollywood Reporter and Variety, Oscar-winning actor Anthony Hopkins is in negotiations to play Odin, the father of Thor, who rules the Norse gods in Asgard.

Unlike the rumors of big names like Robert De Niro and Jude Law joining the cast of Thor, this star is confirmed to be in negotiations for the role. Also joining the cast earlier this month is the talented Stellan SkarsgÄrd in addition to the report of Dominic Cooper possibly playing Fandral.

Odin of course is the ruler of Asgard and father of the lead, Thor, the God of Thunder.

The role of Thor is being played by Chris Hemsworth in a story where the god of thunder, a powerful but arrogant warrior, recklessly re-ignite an ancient war. As punishment, Thor is cast down to Earth and forced to live among humans. Once here, he learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends dark forces of Asgard to invade Earth. Tom Hiddleston, Natalie Portman, Colm Feore and Jaimie Alexander round out the cast.

Director Kenneth Branagh as added another huge name and talented actor to his cast of awesomeness. I am pumped.
What do you think of Anthony Hopkins as Odin?

"Thor" opens in theaters May 20, 2011.
