Youngblood has Writers

Brett Ratner may be out of the director's chair for the new Conan movie but he has plenty of other projects on the go, including a film adaptation of the "Youngblood" comic.

"Youngblood" features the adventures of a team of superheroes who are sanctioned by the US government and operate under public scrutiny against superpowered threats.

Created by writer/artist Rob Liefeld, the comic was originally published by Image Comics and later by Awesome Entertainment.

It's now been revealed that the screenplay for the film adaptation is being penned by writing duo J.P. Lavin and Chad Damiani, who are also working on an adaptation of another Liefield comic called "Capeshooters" (being directed by Bryan Singer).

Liefeld said he had been working closely with the writers, who were halfway through their first draft. The duo had been hired after Brett Ratner mentioned them as perfect candidates.

Speaking to MTV News, Liefeld said the film was "looking to be in the Iron Man neighborhood" with its tone and rating. He hoped to make the film "a little more violent" than 'Iron Man' - "as much as you can push it with PG-13."

The group's members include archer Shaft, stone-bodied Badrock (who Liefeld said will not be in the film), skull-faced superhuman soldier Chapel, energy-emitting Photon and purple-haired gymnast and martial arts combatant Vogue.

Liefeld said the movie would focus on Shaft and Chapel: "They don't like each other. Shaft is the new kid on the block in the movie, and he and Chapel have to put aside their differences to save the 'Youngblood' program."

But he hoped the film would bring amazing visuals: "There are characters that have micro-cameras installed on their bows, their arrows, their semi-automatic rifles, their bo staffs. You're getting footage from a thousand angles, from the casing on their weapons to their armor. When 'Youngblood' goes live, the whole word watches," he said.
