World War Z

According to Screen Rant, "World War Z is the 2006 best-selling novel written by Max Brooks about a future global war against zombies. It is written in the form of interviews featuring multiple survivor perspectives from all over the world recounting their individual struggles throughout the war.

The novel began its translation to the big screen early last year when it was announced that Brad Pitt’s production company, Plan B Productions, would be partnering with Paramount to produce the film. J. Michael Straczynski, who wrote the recent "Changeling," was selected to write the screenplay."

"Quantum of Solace" director Marc Forster has been hired by Paramount to direct "World War Z."

Forster, who said he wouldn't do another Bond movie, said, "The genre always fascinated me, and when they pitched it to me, it reminded me of the paranoid conspiracy films of the 70's like 'All the President's Men.'"

Twilight Fans, Please Calm Down

I can only beg so much. And apparently, Robert Pattinson and Kristin Stewart are beginning to think fans of the upcoming movie "Twilight" need to chill too.

Just watch the last two minutes of this clip and you will see what Pattinson thinks about the "Twilight" book.

And according to an interview with MSN, Kristen Stewart is a bit fed up with the fans too. She said that fans of the book would follow her around the set of the film during shooting.

"I just didn't pay attention," Stewart recalls. "I was like, 'You guys are celebrating something that has not come true yet. So, you are really retarded and have nothing to do with this creative process and I really don't want to hear you celebrate in front of me. Get out of here! It's my responsibility!'

You can go online and it's very intangible. I mean, who knows how many of these girls there are? It's probably just the same five girls going on every message board and gabbing on about it," Stewart says. "But to have literally, like, a room of over 5,000 people screaming at you makes you want to cry. It's not like, 'Oh, this is so great.' I think it's literally like an instinct. To have that sort of energy forced at you? You start to wither."

Some positive news for "Twilight" fans is that sequels for the film are on the way.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, "With Summit Entertainment preparing to release its big bet 'Twilight,' the studio is moving potential future installments in the franchise into the development pipeline.

The company has acquired rights to the next three novels in Stephenie Meyer's blockbuster vampire series and has hired "Twilight" scribe Melissa Rosenberg to pen scripts based on 'New Moon' and 'Eclipse,' the second and third books, respectively.

A fourth book, 'Breaking Dawn,' has not attached a writer."

More news to come! Catch ya' later! And "Twilight" fans....please take a deep breathe...and go do something that doesn't have to do with "Twilight" until Nov. 21, 2008, when the movie comes out.

Brett Ratner Won't Direct Conan...Now

Almost a month ago I reported that Brett Ratner will be directing the next "Conan" film. The news on that may be a bit premature.

Avi Lerner, in an interview with the LA Times, said that Ratner is committed to the new Conan film. "We still have a few obstacles," he said. "Brett is only committed if we agree on a budget, on how to do the special effects and exactly where we'd shoot the film."

Ratner says that he isn't doing Conan...not now at least.
“Let me make this very clear. I am not doing ‘Conan‘ now. This is totally premature,” stated Ratner. “For now, ‘Conan’ is only a development deal. I have a deal at Paramount and I’m doing ‘Beverly Hills Cop [4]‘ first, no matter what. Avi shouldn’t be telling you or anyone else in the press what I’m doing.”

According to MTV News, "Even Paramount is upset about the “Conan” deal, as it puts their schedule and plans for “Beverly Hills Cop 4″ in a bit of jeopardy. Ratner’s involvement hinges entirely on whether Lerner is willing to wait for him to complete his Beverly Hills installment — and Lerner is so eager to get “Conan” up and running that he may be announcing another director soon."

More news will come about the new "Conan" movie, but here is an interesting tidbit.
Here is what Lerner said about what kind of actor he is looking for to play Conan.
"To be honest, we're looking for a younger Arnold Schwarzenegger, someone we could sign to a three- or four-picture deal, because I see this as a real long-term franchise."

And Lerner even approached Arnold Schwarzenegger about making a cameo.
"I saw Arnold in Las Vegas at the premiere of 'Rambo,' " Lerner says. "He said, 'Wait two years for me--I'll be coming back.' But I can't wait that long." Lerner says he offered Schwarzenegger $1 million just to do a one-day cameo in the picture.

"I told him we could even shoot the scene in Sacramento," Lerner recalls. "He was smiling, but he didn't say yes. Maybe he can't take the money while he's still governor. That's OK, if he can't take the money, I'd donate it to a charity or give it to a school that needs the money." Lerner laughs. "Don't worry--I'll approach him again. I don't give up that easily."

Monopoly the Game, the Movie

Read this interesting article by Variety.

"Ridley Scott has officially moved onto Park Avenue.

The helmer will direct Universal Pictures' bigscreen version of Hasbro's Monopoly board game from a script by Pamela Pettler.

Scribe's written toons 'Monster House,' 'The Corpse Bride' and '9,' which Tim Burton and 'Wanted'-helmer Timur Bekmambetov are producing.

Scott, who recently helmed Warner Bros.' 'Body of Lies' has long been attached to the project. He will produce, with Hasbro topper Brian Goldner, as well as direct.

'Monopoly' is set up at Universal Pictures, which has a first-look deal with Hasbro to develop movies based on the company's line of toys. Those include 'Ouija,' which Platinum Dunes is developing, and 'Battleship.'"

And according to Latino Review, Scott wants to make the movie "with an eye toward giving it a futuristic sheen along the lines of his iconic 'Blade Runner.'"

In addition to Scott, Giannina Facio and Hasbro's Brian Goldner are also producing the movie, which will shape a narrative out of the iconic real-estate game. Lawrence Grey will oversee for Universal and Bennett Schneir will oversee for Hasbro.

I don't know how well a Monopoly movie is going to be, but here is a cool trailer.
No...it is not real....or is it?

Nottingham

Ridley Scott's next film, "Nottingham," is a remake of the classic Robing Hood tale starring Russell Crowe as both Robin Hood and The Sheriff of Nottingham.

The film is due to begin shooting in February.

According to The Geek Files, "Scott, 70, says previous screen versions of the outlaw, including Errol Flynn's performance in 1938 and Kevin Costner's interpretation in 1991's 'Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves,' failed to hit the target."

Scott wants to make Robin Hood a realistic tale and will not be putting Crowe in any feathered cap and tights.

"Think of 'Gladiator,'" said Scott. "Everyone sniggered because they thought I was going to do a sandal and toga movie. But I knew exactly how to do it. And I know how to do Robin Hood."

Scott describes his Robin Hood as a social democrat rebelling once King John introduces taxation after his brother, Richard the Lionheart, has bankrupted England to fund the Crusades.

He said, "I will have to keep in the incredible marksmanship. But we will push it towards reality."

"Nottingham" has a release date of Nov. 6, 2009.

Manga Movie Madness

Leonardo DiCaprio and his production company, Appian Way, are setting their sights on making comic book movies. Not just any comics though, famous mangas and anime!

Appian Way has been picking up classic heavy-hitters from the world of Japanese manga and anime — most notably “Akira” and “Ninja Scroll” — to develop into live-action feature films.

“We’re waiting for the final draft of the script [for 'Akira'],” DiCaprio told MTV. “I’m a big fan of Japanese anime — that and another project called ‘Ninja Scroll’ we’re trying to get developed and made into a movie, and I know there a lot of loyal fans out there of the project and die-hard fans, so we’re going to try to do the best job we possibly can and we’re not going to make the movie until the script is in the right shape.”

DiCaprio made it clear that he will only be producing these films and will not act in either of them.

“Ninja Scroll” is one of the most popular anime movies outside of Japan, ranking alongside the classics “Ghost in the Shell” and “Akira.” It’s a dark and gruesome story, following Jubei Kibagami, a ninja who finds himself on a quest to defeat the Eight Devils of Kimon. The villains include a hunchback, who boasts a wasp’s nest as his deformity, a giant man with stone skin, and a woman with snake tattoos which can come to life.

I already mentioned the Akira film here.

I am a fan of both anime films and will definitely be seeing how the live-action adaptations compare with the anime.
