Lobo

Lobo is an intergalactic bounty hunter who gets his target in probably the most violent way possible. He was a character from DC comics that became popular during the time of excessive violence in the mid-1990s.

Now WB and DC plan on bringing a Lobo film to life.
Head over to Latino Review to see a review of the script of the film and decide on your own whether this kind of movie can work (it is unembeddable, so you have to go to Latino Review to watch it).

Do you think a Lobo movie can work? Will it be able to do well if rated R?

"Predators"

According to Bloody Disgusting, "Bloody-Disgusting got the scoop that Alex Litvak is currently penning the new draft of 'Predators' that's to be produced by Robert Rodriguez's Troublemaker Studios for 20th Century Fox. Litvak recently wrote 'Medieval' for New Regency. The reboot to the classic 80's action/horror flick Predator is being penned as a 'sequel' and will follow a team of commandos who face down a mysterious race of vicious monsters. The project is on fast-track for a July 9, 2010 release. No word yet on who will be directing as Rodriguez is now said to not be getting behind the camera."

Again, so it is a sequel and not a reboot yet it is still being called a reboot. Is everyone getting confused with the jargon? Is it possible the film can be both (as the sequel will be rebooting the franchise)?

"Inception"

According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Ken Watanabe and Tom Hardy are boarding Christopher Nolan's 'Inception' for Warner Bros.

The story, which Nolan wrote, is a contemporary sci-fi actioner set within the architecture of the mind, with Leonardo DiCaprio as a CEO type.

The duo join a cast that includes Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Cillian Murphy, Ellen Page and Marion Cotillard."

Watanabe, who starred as Ra’s Al Ghul in Nolan’s 2005 "Batman Begins," will play the film’s villain, a man who is blackmailing DiCaprio. Hardy is also a member of DiCaprio’s team.

Production is set to begin this summer for a July 16, 2010 release.

"20,000 Leagues Under the Sea"

Sci Fi Wire spoke to "Terminator Salvation" director McG about his upcoming remake of "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" for Disney and found out Dwayne Johnson is not involved with the film.

What makes Dwayne Johnson right as your leading man?

McG: He's not. I don't know where that came from. I've never spoken to Dwayne Johnson. You can be the first to report that I have no idea where that came from. I wish him every success, but I never spoke to Dwayne about this.

So do you have a leading man, then?

McG: I do not. I'm out to Will Smith.

Well, everyone is running with that Dwayne Johnson story—

McG: I've never spoken to Dwayne Johnson about this. I like him. He's great. He's a wonderful human being and an excellent screen presence, but we have not spoken about '20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.' Not a word.

McG says he still hopes that Will Smith will play the part in the new movie.

'Wanted' Screenwriter Still Working for Sequel

Last month it was reported that Evan Spiliotopoulos, co-writer of "Pooh's Heffalump Movie", was hired to write Universal's action sequel "Wanted 2" based on a story by Chris Morgan, the screenwriter for "Wanted."

But according to MTV News, Morgan will still be involved with the sequel.

“I’m actually still involved with ‘Wanted,’” Morgan told MTV News, explaining that his current workload made it necessary for him to step aside from primary writing duties on the film. However, he’ll still have input on the sequel’s creative development.

“We knew we wanted to do ‘Wanted 2,’ so we started developing a take and came up with a story that’s pretty good and develops the characters,” said Morgan. “But in the process of developing it, I also had commitments to ‘Gears of War’ and the samurai movie I’m doing at Universal.”

According to Morgan, Spiliotopoulos will provide the script for the story initially envisioned during the “Wanted 2″ planning process, and Morgan will return later to consult and provide any rewrites that might be necessary.

“Evan is going to go ahead and write the story that we came up with and I’m probably going to come on later,” said Morgan. “So, I’m still part of the process, but I didn’t want to hold up the ‘Wanted’ production schedule.”

“It’s all good,” said Morgan of the change-up. “I’m actually really excited about ['Wanted 2'].”

Are you looking forward to "Wanted 2?"

G.I. Joe Will Not Be Political

According to Screen Rant, "The background of the whole 'G.I. Joe' mythology, which dates back to World War II, plus all of the military activity (outfits and such…) we’ve seen in the footage released so far, suggests some sort of political angle within the movie. Well, according to producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura [also producer of 'Transformers'], that’s not the case:

'This 'G.I. Joe' has nothing to do with American foreign policy. It’s about a team of skilled operatives fighting an evil organization that’s trying to take over the world. There are no politics in it at all.'

Also, when comparisons were brought up between G.I. Joe and Transformers, Bonaventura weighed in with an objection:

'Actually, we were working on a 'G.I. Joe' movie long before we did 'Transformers' and our 'Joe' isn’t based on the animated series–it’s based on the comic books that came out in 1982 and 1983.'"

This is good so that it won't divide viewers who have different political opinions, but it might divide viewer who liked the televisions series.

Terminator 5 Details

"Terminator Salvation" hits theaters May 21, but McG is already working on plans for the next installment in the franchise.

In an interview from Film Journal, McG spoke about how "Salvation" came about, what made him interested in the film and other behind-the-scenes goodies about the anticipated movie. (Read full article here).

Near the end of the interview though, McG begins to talk about his ideas for the next "Terminator" film.

"I strongly suspect the next movie is going to take place in a [pre-Judgment Day] 2011," McG reveals. "John Connor is going to travel back in time and he's going to have to galvanize the militaries of the world for an impending SkyNet invasion.

"They've figured out time travel to the degree where they can send more than one naked entity. So you're going to have hunter killers and transports and harvesters and everything arriving in our time and Connor fighting back with conventional military warfare, which I think is going to be f***ing awesome. I also think he's going to meet a scientist that's going to look a lot like present-day Robert Patrick [who famously played the T-1000 in Terminator 2], talking about stem-cell research and how we can all live as idealized, younger versions of ourselves."

This brings up the idea of bringing back Patrick to fill a role. Going back in time again sounds kind of confusing (time travel can always be confusing), but no one has even seen "Salvation" yet.

We can all decide what ideas for the next film can work after seeing how "Salvation" ends later this month.

The Hunt for Gollum

An independtly made film titled "The Hunt for Gollum" follows Aragorn (Adrian Webster), the Heir of Isildur, as he sets out to find the creature Gollum (voiced by Gareth Brough and Jason Perino). The creature must be found to discover the truth about the ring, and to protect the future Ringbearer. The script for the film was adapted from elements of the appendices of J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Lord of the Rings” by Chris Bouchard, who also served as exec producer and director.

The film has a running time of about 38 minutes (34 for just the film without the ending credits) and was made on a modest budget of $3,000. It doesn't have the large grand scale of the "Lord of the Rings" movies by Peter Jackson, but it definitely captures the feel of them.

Now that Peter Jackson and Guillermo del Toro have decided not to film a go between from the upcoming "Hobbit" films and "The Lord of the Rings," I would say this could serve as the unofficial filler.

Watch the film here and watch the trailer below.

If you are a "LOTR" fan, this is a must see!

Terminator Asks for Salvation

"Terminator Salvation" stars Christian Bale as John Connor, the hero with a complicated history who has had to battle machines from the future. Sam Worthington plays Marcus Wright, a man who is not fully human but believes he is Connor's last chance to stop the war between SkyNet and humanity.

The film is being directed by McG, who was recently interviewed by the LA Times to discuss the newest addition to the "Terminator" franchise.

According to the LA Times, "The year is 2018 and mankind is being snuffed out by the malevolent machines of SkyNet. The man who is destined to lead the human resistance, John Connor (Bale), is now an adult but is struggling with his legacy and the suspicions of his ragged compatriots. He also is staggered when he meets Marcus Wright (Worthington), whose last memory is of being a death row prisoner before the apocalyptic attacks of SkyNet. Wright turns out to be a SkyNet-created cyborg model but one that does not match the prophecies that have guided Connor his entire life. The distrusting pair set off on a quest to find answers, and the path leads to Dr. Serena Kogen (Helena Bonham Carter) and an ending that 'will shock everyone,' McG promises. The cast also features hip-hop star Common, Moon Bloodgood, Anton Yelchin and Bryce Dallas Howard, the daughter of filmmaker Ron Howard.

For former music video director McG (his birth name is Joseph McGinty Nichol; he grew up with the nickname), the film is a chance to establish himself in the special-effects blockbuster sector after directing films such as the glossy 'Charlie's Angels' and the football melodrama 'We Are Marshall.' If this film clicks as Warner Bros. expects, McG will have a film franchise as well as his considerable success as a television producer with shows such as 'Supernatural' and 'Chuck.'

'I do believe this is a great opportunity for me,' McG said, 'and we have a story to tell, state-of-the-art special effects and, in Christian Bale, nothing less than the most credible and intense action star in the world.'"

The article explained how neither star Arnold Schwarzenegger nor director James Cameron have helped this movie get made. McG was also skeptical as to whether another sequel was needed after "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines."

"'Sequels that match or meet the first film are hard to pull off, still, I think,' McG said. 'I know I made a substandard one with the 'Charlie's Angels' sequel, and I wasn't eager to make another one that followed someone else's movies.'

The script by John Brancato and Michael Ferris, though, took the characters into dark, unexpected directions and, unlike the previous three films, this one is set entirely in a grim, soul-crushing future.

'We're going to win people over when they see what we have here. We're bringing credibility back to 'Terminator.''"

Do you think another "Terminator" film was necessary for the franchise?
