Villain Loki Cast for Thor
Director Kenneth Branagh has cast his "Wallander" co-star Tom Hiddleston as evil god of mischief Loki in Marvel's big-screen version of "Thor."
News of the casting of British actor Hiddleston, who plays Detective Martinsson in BBC drama "Wallander," comes from Deadline Hollywood Daily.
The site yesterday revealed "Star Trek" actor Chris Hemsworth was to star as the Norse thunder god. The main characters of the film have been announced just a day apart from each other.
It was earlier rumored that Hiddleston (below) was also a candidate for the lead role. But, judging from his appearance, the award-winning Shakespearean actor seems more suited to play the trickster Loki (pictured top), scheming half-brother of Thor.
Marvel Studios has not released any official announcement of casting for the film, which is based on its comic book version of the hammer-wielding deity and is set for release in May, 2011. The press release about both castings is being written and should be released soon.
"Thor" will also feature alongside "Iron Man," "Captain America" and other heroes in Marvel's planned ensemble movie "The Avengers" slated for May, 2012.
