The End is Nigh

If you've been looking over this blog the past few months you can definitely tell there have been changes going on. First I had to rush posts together and just give links, and then I kind of stopped posting pretty much all together.

Why? Well heading back to school takes time and so does other things like trying to get a career and whatnot.

I haven't lost interest or anything (I'm still checking up on the latest movie news hourly), but I just don't have the time anymore.

This was just a side hobby since I kept up with all the movie news and decided to write about it all instead of going around and telling everyone I know (especially if they didn't really care).

And I truly enjoyed working on this blog. For over a year I did multiple posts a day. As previously mentioned, it's only been the past few months where this blog has become pretty deserted.

I don't know yet if this is really THE END or not. It might just be a hiatus - but be serious, will I really return here?

I'll keep the blog up for now and we'll see if I decided to get back into the thick of things later.

Hope everyone out there on the blogosphere continues to do well and succeed in everything you all do.

Best of Luck!

Brett Ratner Was in Town

I previously mentioned how director Brett Ratner was coming to my campus to talk with students. I was hoping to learn more about some upcoming movies, but his whole speech was on perseverance (much like what Michael Uslan did, but we actually got to talk about movies).

Brett gave a whole schpiel on how he got into NYU and how he got into music videos. He went on to tell stories of meeting Steven Spielberg, getting to work on "Rush Hour" and casting Nick Cage in "The Family Man."

When it came to Q & A time, most people asked how they can get into the Hollywood business as well (some people ran up to him and handed him scripts, business cards and short films). There were three questions that I found interesting though.

One was on how he changed characters that have already been pre-established in previous movies. Mainly he was talking about how to make Anthony Hopkins act like Hannibal Lecter for "Red Dragon." Another good question was dealing with problems with actors on set (he said that Edward Norton is probably the toughest actor to deal with in the film industry).

The last good question was mine, and I know it was good because someone tapped me on the shoulder afterward and said, "Good question." So if two people think so, then it is!

I asked about the recent trend in Hollywood of making tons of remakes and sequels. I asked where the originality had gone Since Ratner was attached to a remake ("Conan") and now is attached to a sequel ("Beverly Hills Cop IV"), which are films that both started off as franchises in the 80's.

"The 70's was a time of innovation," he said. "You could walk into a studio with any artistic film and it would get made. Now the studios want a sure-thing.

"They want remakes and sequels because people like those already established characters," Ratner continued. "A movie in the 70's could have been made for several million dollars. I made 'X-Men 3' with $230 million."

"The studios have all become conglomerates. They've all become pencil-pushers," he said. "But sometimes you get a hit, like my friend Todd Phillips' movie over the summer ['The Hangover']."

"I'll stick to franchises myself," he added.

So that was basically it. Yeah, he came out talking about how he dates supermodels, how he lives in a $20 million mansion and how he owns a whole fleet of expensive cars, but he is living the dream. What it all comes down to though, is not making money, but telling a story.

I wonder what stories Ratner has left to tell (that are not about himself).

Strictly News, No Reviews

I have seen plenty of movies lately that I discuss on my blog here, but I have yet to review them and time keeps passing by.

While I love writing about daily news, I prefer to voice my opinions about the films I see in news posts rather than a long winded review.

So reviews will no longer be done on this blog, which gives me more time to focus on the news (seriously, my reviews aren't that great anyway).

Brett Ratner is Coming!

Holy Cow! Brett Ratner, director of the "Rush Hour" trilogy and "X-Men: The Last Stand," is coming to my college campus next week on Tuesday.

I am definitely going and I will be able to ask him one question. I hope I may also get an autograph.

But my question is...what should I ask him?
Definitely not on his heated response to haters of "X-Men 3."

Should it be on "Beverly Hills Cop IV" or possibly is "Youngblood" adaptation?

I will let you, my dear readers, help me decide what my question will be to Brett Ratner!

One Year and 978 Posts Later (Now 979)

Damn. Wouldn't it have been awesome for the one year anniversary of my blog (which was actually yesterday) to have had 1,000 posts. Ah well...978 is still a good number.

Thanks for all those have been keeping up and reading the latest on movie news hear. But I am glad to be writing this because I truly love the cinema and have enjoyed a lot of the news hear (and also disliked some of the news as well).

Big thanks goes out to A Blog Without An "Original" Title for showing me how to start a blog. That was the first step.

Also to Ben's Daily Movie News for keeping up with me on all things movie related.

Another shout out to The Solar Sentinel for being a truly exceptional inter-dimensional newspaper and thinking I am worthy enough to be an associate.

And last but not least, thanks to Zom-boo-yah ! Version 2.0 for being a fellow movie blogger friend (and making me laugh all the fricking time).

My first post a year ago was basically a review of all the movies I saw in the summer of 2008. While I have reviewed some films from this past summer, I have not done a post on a lot of them. So a Summer Movies of '09 post will be forthcoming (with quick reviews of "Transformers: RotF," "District 9," "Inglourious Basterds," "500 Days of Summer" and others that I might remember later).

Thanks again to every one.

'Twilight': Even Robert Pattinson is Sick of the Obsession

Last year, around when "Twilight" came out, I gave multiple warnings of "Twilight" obsession. From the girl trampled in the mall to both Robert Pattinson and Kristin Stewart (Edward and Bella) thinking the fans are creepy.

But the weird obsession still persists and again I must address it.

Girls under the age of 10 should probably not be readings the lengthy novels as they are probably inaporpriate. Also, wearing sparkly shirts with Pattinson on the front is also plain weird for girls that age. Yet that is only the beginning.

The older women who swoon over Pattinson are even more disturbing and even the actor finds this a problem.

Pattinson told OK! Magazine he feels the character isn't as nice as his fans think: "It's weird, but girls always seem like that. Being a guy, you always just look at girls and think: 'Why are you with that guy?'

"With virtually anyone the nice guys always seem to come last. You always get weirdos like Edward who seem to attract women for some reason.

"If Edward wasn't a fictional character and you met him in reality he is like one of those guys who would probably be an axe murderer or something."

Pattinson added that he was amazed by his obsessive fans: "I had no idea people could get so obsessed. But it's not scary - it's amazing.

"People just project their idea of my character on to me and they just seem to assume that I'm the same, when in reality I'm not.

"A mother recently gave me her baby and asked me, 'Can you please bite her head?'

"People ambush me and try to figure out what hotel I'm staying at, as well as wanting to touch my hair. Everyone just screams and screams. It still feels surreal."

And there you have it. My girlfriend thought the film was decent, wants to see the sequel and thinks Pattinson is hot. But she is not obsessed about him being a vampire or anything. And that makes everything all right in my relationship.

Are you a "Twilight" fan? What are your thoughts on the "Twilight" obsession?

Personal Message/Rant

My laptop did not make it out of the shop on time for school.
I am not at home anymore and I am currently typing in a computer lab.

My laptop was suuposed to be returned to me after two weeks. The fix-it place recieved my computer Dec. 16, but didn't start working on it until Dec. 26. When I get it back is anyone's guess.

I will try to head to the lab once a day to update. Otherwise, go out and enjoy some movies! I know I will have to do that more since I have no computer!

Personal Message

Hey readers, this is my first actual post that doesn't have to do with movies.
It deals with personal business.

My computer has been on the fritz for some time, but still works. So over the next three weeks I am sending it in to the shop for a check-up.

I will not be posting as regularly as I usually do since I will have to go on other computers to blog. Hopefully not too much movie news will come out over the holidays, but then again, Hollywood never sleeps.

Have a great holiday time and continue to read because more news will be up here, whether my computer is in the shop or not!

Also, someday in the future I will probably learn some computer skills and make this web site really professional looking. Either that or I will hire me a web programmer person. We will have to wait and see.

More news to come! Catch ya' later!
