Next Hard Boiled

No, it isn't "Harder Boiled."
It is something new entirely.

"Hard Boiled" is about a cop (played by Chow Yun-Fat) who must team up with an undercover cop to take down gangs that are smuggling guns and hurting innocents. That movie was groundbreaking in its effects of gunplay and has influenced other films such as "The Matrix" and videogames such as "Max Payne."

A sequel to the movie was made in 2007 as a video game called "Stranglehold." Chow Yun-Fat’s production company, Lions Rock Entertainment, was developing a feature film version of the video game "Stranglehold." But TwitchFilm had the chance to interview John Woo’s production partner Terrence Chang, who confirmed that this new film won’t be a sequel but rather a reinvention.

“We are now developing a movie of 'Stranglehold,' and just signed the writers Fabrizio & Passmore. It will be a hardcore action film set in both Hong Kong and Chicago. We will keep some of the action set pieces of the game, but the story is different. It is a total reinvention, with a much younger Tequila. In other words, it is not a sequel to 'Hard Boiled.'”

The new film sounds more like a prequel than a sequel. It also sounds like a reboot of the film. So it is a preboot, if you will.
This changes the whole idea of having Chow Yun-Fat return as Inspector Tequila if the character is going to be younger. Since it is his production company he will most likely stay on as Executive Producer or some other behind the scenes role.

What do you think of this new "Hard Boiled" film being a prequel/reboot? Would you rather see the continuation of Inspector Tequila’s story or find out what happened before what we already know?
