Clash of the Titans Remake Cast
Gemma Arterton, Bond girl from "Quantum of Solace" and will next be seen starring alongside Jake Gyllenhaal in next year's "Prince of Persia," is cast as the role of Io in Louis Leterrier's remake of the classic 1981 film "Clash of the Titans."
According to Slash Film, Arterton revealed at the Empire Awards that she was going to be in the new movie.
According to First Showing, "Arterton will apparently play the character of Io, a priestess of Hera who was seduced by Zeus and changed into a cow to escape detection. I don't think that's the exact character that she'll be playing, because she said in a separate interview about Sam Worthington, 'I hope he's nice because we have to fall in love.' The character of Io wasn't even in the original 1981 'Clash of the Titans,' which is a bit odd. Judi Bowker played Princess Andromeda, who was Perseus' original love interest in that film. Unless we hear otherwise, it looks like Gemma Arterton will be the primary love interest in both 'Prince of Persia' and 'Clash of the Titans.'"
“The script is very different,” Arterton said in an interview with Empire. “Obviously the story is the story, but it’s much more about Perseus’ mission, and how he deals with being the son of Zeus, and things like that, so it feels a little more about him, and about the issues around that.”
Also in the film is Liam Cunningham, Hans Matheson as Ixas and Luke Treadaway as Prokopion.
Liam Neeson had been cast as Zeus but following the tragic death of his wife Natasha Richardson, it's not yet known whether he's still available to do it.
"Clash of the Titans" will start filming in London and Spain next month, for release in 2010.
