Movie News Mash 7

"The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader"

The third installment in the "Narnia" franchise finally gets a release date.
The film will be coming out on Dec. 10, 2010.

Michael Apted is set to direct with all the regulars expected to return as Lucy and Edmund Pevensie return to Narnia with their cousin Eustace where they meet up with Prince Caspian for a trip across the sea aboard the royal ship The Dawn Treader. Along the way they encounter dragons, dwarves, merfolk, and a band of lost warriors before reaching the edge of the world.

"Jonah Hex"

According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Megan Fox is in final negotiations to star opposite Josh Brolin and John Malkovich in 'Jonah Hex,' Warner Bros.' action Western based on the DC Comics character. She also is attached to star and develop 'Fathom,' Fox Atomic's comic book-based underwater adventure.

In 'Hex,' being directed by Jimmy Hayward, Fox will play Leila, a gun-wielding beauty and love interest of Hex (Brolin), a scarred bounty hunter tracking a voodoo practitioner (Malkovich) who wants to raise an army of undead to liberate the South.

The movie is prepping for a shoot in April, with Mad Chance's Andrew Lazar and Weed Road's Akiva Goldsman producing.

'Fathom,' a comic created by recently deceased artist Michael Turner, follows a young woman named Aspen who learns she is a member of a race of aquatic humanoids who possess the ability to control water.

The project was at one point set up at James Cameron's Lightstorm Entertainment. When the option lapsed, producer Peter Safran scooped it up and began packaging it, eventually attracting Fox, a fan of the comic since its 1998 debut, when it became the top-selling comic of the year. Fox had been seeking Turner to investigate 'Fathom's' rights availability.

Fox is now helping develop and shape the adaptation, which is being written by Jordan Mechner, the creator of video game "Prince of Persia." (The ICM-repped scribe also wrote on Disney's Jerry Bruckheimer-produced adaptation.)"

ICM-repped Fox next appears in this summer's "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" and stars in the Diablo Cody-penned comedic supernatural thriller movie "Jennifer's Body," which opens in the fall. She recently appeared in the comedy "How to Lose Friends and Alienate People."

"Inception"

According to Variety, "Leonardo DiCaprio will star in 'Inception,' the science-fiction film that Christopher Nolan ('The Dark Knight') wrote and will direct as his next pic at Warner Bros.

The project shoots this year and is slated to be released in summer 2010, with Nolan and Emma Thomas producing. DiCaprio's deal is in final negotiations.

DiCaprio, coming off 'Revolutionary Road' and 'Body of Lies,' will next be seen starring in the Martin Scorsese-directed 'Shutter Island' at Paramount."

"Sucker Punch"

According to First Showing, "Visionary director Zack Snyder's next feature film is an ass-kicking all-female extravaganza called 'Sucker Punch,' about a girl named Baby Doll who, while in a mental institution, imagines an alternative reality to hide from the pain, and in that world, begins planning her escape. Starring as the lead will be Amanda Seyfried. Also joining the cast - Vanessa Hudgens, Abbie Cornish, Evan Rachel Wood, and Emma Stone.

Warner Brothers has graciously given Zack Snyder a $100 million budget for 'Sucker Punch,' so expect something pretty awesome, just like '300' and 'Watchmen.' The four aforementioned actresses - Hudgens, Cornish, Rachel Wood, and Stone - are all fellow inmates who take on fantastical roles in the lead character's mind."

According to Entertainment Weekly, "The $100 million budgeted film for Warner Bros. is scheduled to begin production in the Fall. Says Snyder, who is also producing the film with his wife Deborah Snyder, 'I already did the all-male cast with '300,' so I'm doing the opposite end of the spectrum.'"

All interesting news, but don't have much to say since I have to get up for class in five hours. Good night fellow readers!

"Jonah Hex" keeps getting cooler by the day. I'm not so sure about Megan Fox starring as Aspen Matthews in "Fathom", though. Aspen's gotta be smart and sexy, she's definitely got the sexy part goin', but she hasn't really proven she can play a tough brainy character too. I've also been hearing she's been attached as Cassie Hack in the "Hack/Slash" movie, but that could just be the fans' dream casting.

"Inception" I will see no matter who's in it or what it's about. Christopher Nolan now has my support in everything he does.

"Sucker Punch" sounds awesome, but that seems like a HUUUGGGE budget for a film that. That's the only thing that has me worried.

Fox is definitely doing well with her sex appeal, but she is probably going to broaden her horizons to show everyone she can act. She probably wants to be taken seriously.

Nolan has everyone's support. "Inception" is already on my list of need to see for 2010 and I don't even know what it is about yet.

That is a big budget, not as large as "Watchmen," but we will have to wait for more news on what special effects are being done to warrant that budget.
