According to the folks over at Shock Till You Drop, we may have our confirmation that the long-rumored speculation of "Resident Evil 4’s" production is actually a go and that it would likely come out in 2010.
An insider of theirs has confirmed that Sony is set to get Resident Evil: Afterlife ready for theatrical release by September 17, 2010.
In spite of what any of the talent involved in "Resident Evil: Extinction" said during the press tour (mostly, "this is the final chapter"), the film left the door wide open for a fourth installment.
Late last year, Paul W.S. Anderson revealed he was indeed writing another film. Capcom was getting involved. Everyone, as he said, was "excited."
Will Anderson direct? Unsure. Will Milla Jovovich be back? I think it would be safe to say yes considering the last entry ended on a major cliffhanger that could lead to anywhere.
Each film has goner further and further away from the canon of the games and basically ruined the franchise (I love the games and dislike each new movie). I think they should just do a reboot and start from the beginning with the characters from the game and follow the general plot of the video game series instead of just making more crud up.
More news to come! Catch ya' later!

As much as I love any movie where Milla Jovovich is kicking butt (except Ultraviolet, maybe), this is one series that definitely needs a reboot. The only flick that's really watchable for me is RE: Apocalypse, because it actually has a lot of elements from the RE3: Nemesis game.
The movies are more sci-fi movies than anything, but the original 3 games could just be epic horror films if done right.
I love her in The Fifth Element, but also agree with you on Ultraviolet being crud.
I liked having Apocalypse take from the Nemesis game, but I just don't like how the films center around a character that doesn't exist in the game canon. I can see it as a side character, but as a main character?
I have envisioned in my mind many times how a RE movie should be and horror is where it is at (with action too). All that needs to be touched up on from the games is the cheesy dialogue.
