Sam Claflin has been selected by producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Rob Marshall to star in “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” the fourth in the blockbuster series of films.
Claflin will star in the key role of Philip, a youthful missionary, a role said to be the film's new male heart throb, sort of the new Orlando Bloom.
Claflin is pretty much an unknown entity, but like Hayley Atwell who was recently cast as the female lead in Marvel's "The First Avenger: Captain America," he too will be seen in the Canadian miniseries "The Pillars of the Earth" alongside Ian McShane, Rufus Sewell, Matthew MacFadyen and Donald Sutherland. "Pirates 4," however, marks his feature film debut.
He joins previously cast Johnny Depp, Geoffrey Rush, Penélope Cruz, Ian McShane, Stephen Graham and Astrid Berges-Frisbey.
Shooting starts in June with a release date of May 20, 2011. That doesn't give an incredible amount of time for post-production but I wouldn't mind at all if the franchise went in a bit less FX route and we just got some straight up pirate action.
More news to come! Catch ya' later!
