Jeremy Renner is hot property right now. After the success of "The Hurt Locker" and his Oscar nomination, his name is being tossed into every big motion picture coming out in the next couple of years. He was rumored to potentially play Hawkeye in Marvel's "Thor," but that never panned out.
However, he does have a few other big deals in the works.
The NY Times did a profile on some of this year's Oscar nominees and talked a little bit with Renner, who revealed that he's cast in James McTeigue's "Raven" and also that he's "in talks with Universal and director Peter Berg about taking the lead role in 'Battleship.'"
"The Raven," the next project from "V for Vendetta" and "Ninja Assassin" director James McTeigue, is inspired by the famous Edgar Allen Poe poem of the same name and follows Poe on the last five days before his death. As McTeigue explains: "It's basically set in 1850s Baltimore. The logline would be: an amalgamation of Poe's stories crossed with 'Se7en.' It's about a serial killer loose in 1850s Baltimore." The NY Times also revealed that Ewan McGregor is in talks to co-star and that shooting should take place soon.
As for "Battleship," Renner said that he has to choose between either taking on that role or another project (he didn't say what), since both of them are expected to shoot in the summer and he can't do both.
With these two big starring roles coming up, it definitely looks like Renner is ready to hit the mainstream following "The Hurt Locker." And if he wins an Oscar on March 7th, it'll only help solidify his presence even further.
What do you think of Renner starring in "The Raven" and possibly in "Battleship"? Did you like him in "The Hurt Locker"?
More news to come! Catch ya' later!
