According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jemaine Clement is in final negotiations to play one of the villains in Columbia's "Men in Black 3."
The star of the cult HBO series "Flight of the Conchords," Clement will play Boris, a devious figure that is both “charmy and creepy at the same time.” He is reportedly one of several new alien baddies that will be be making matters complicated for the black suit-wearing heroes of the MIB.
The film is ramping up as Will Smith recently signed on to reprise his role as the alien-chasing government agent, Agent J. Tommy Lee Jones will also be back as Agent K but in an undefined capacity as most of the film takes place in the past with Josh Brolin playing a young K.
The story will involve Agent J (Smith) traveling back to the year 1969 to meet a younger version of Tommy Lee Jones' character Agent K (Brolin). Since we're not sure why he has to go back in time, or what dastardly plans Boris has for the planet Earth, we can only speculate that it may have something to do with the historical moon landing which just happened to take place in the year 1969.
Hopefully writer Etan Cohen ("Tropic Thunder") is able to make the series feel fresh and come up with some interesting twists after the lackluster "Men in Black 2." All I know is that Clement's got amazing comedic sensibilities and his work with Bret McKenzie on "Flight of the Conchords" proves that.
Original helmer Barry Sonnenfeld is back in the director's chair for the third film (in 3D), with a May 25, 2012 release date already set.
