DreamWorks Animation has debuted the full-length theatrical trailer for "Shrek Forever After" to give you a taste of what's coming this summer. The first teaser trailer arrived in December but we haven't seen much since. With DreamWorks' other new movie, "How to Train Your Dragon," opening in a few more weeks, marketing will definitely be ramping up for "Shrek Forever After" since it's their big summer movie.
Longing for the days when he felt like a “real ogre,” Shrek is duped into signing a pact with the smooth-talking deal-maker, Rumpelstiltskin and finds himself in a twisted, alternate version of Far Far Away, where ogres are hunted, Rumpelstiltskin is king and Shrek and Fiona have never met. Now, it’s up to Shrek to undo all he’s done in the hopes of saving his friends, restoring his world and reclaiming his one True Love.
I like that they’re bringing in a well known fairy-tale character like Rumpelstiltskin as a sort of “villain.” I have to admit it’s not a bad story, certainly taking the franchise in a new direction instead of rehashing ideas (although I’m sure we’ll have the same old overabundance of pop culture jokes and unfunny slapstick like what can be seen in the final moments of the trailer).
All three of the main voice actors – Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz and Eddie Murphy – are back for the fourth movie. Antonio Banderas is also returning as Puss in Boots (who is getting his own spinoff movie), and joining the fun are Julie Andrews, Justin Timberlake, Jon Hamm, Maya Rudolph, Amy Sedaris, Larry King, Regis Philbin and Kathy Griffin.
What do you think of the latest trailer for "Shrek Forever After"?
"Shrek Forever After" hits in 3D and regular 2D theaters on May 21, 2010.
More news to come! Catch ya' later!
