Daniel Craig in talks for 'Cowboys & Aliens'
"James Bond" actor Daniel Craig is in talks to star in the Dreamworks adaptation of comic book series "Cowboys & Aliens" after Robert Downey Jr dropped out, according to Collider.
Collider points out an obvious point that Craig is “in negotiations” which means that he has NOT been cast in the lead role quite yet. These kinds of things – until the folks involved start signing on the dotted line – can fall through, so it’s very possible Craig will not end up starring in the Jon Favreau directed project.
Now one of the main reasons that Craig might not end up starring in the project would be a schedule conflict with "Bond 23." The next spy film was said to have been put on hold indefinitely until MGM gets auctioned off, but THR reported it’s being fast-tracked due to talks with director Sam Mendes and could begin shooting as early as this June for a release in 2011. "Cowboys & Aliens" plans to begin shooting in July, so if its schedule conflicts with "Bond 23"...I think Bond will win out.
Zeke Jackson is the lead in "Cowboys & Aliens," a Platinum Studios comic book series set in the mid-1800s. In Silver City, Arizona, Apache Indians and Western settlers must put their differences aside when a spaceship crash lands in their city. The aliens plan to quash the Wild West and enslave humanity, but the cowboys and Apache have other plans.
Sounds like a cool story to me and if this means we get to see Daniel Craig kicking some alien ass, then bring it on. Since I haven't read the comics I can't say he's a good fit, but I am excited to potentially see him join this project, especially because that means Jon Favreau gets to direct James Bond!
More news to come! Catch ya' later!
