"Predators," Fox's return to the "Predator" franchise that began with Arnold Schwarzenegger in 1987 and recently disappointed everyone with two "Alien vs. Predator" films, has had some major developments recently.
The newest announcement on "Predators" is that the cast of the film is coming together. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Adrien Brody is set to star in the reported re-boot of the franchise. Joining the Oscar winner are Danny Trejo, Oleg Taktarov (UFC fighter), Walt Goggins ("The Shield"), Alice Braga ("I am Legend") and Mahershalalhashbaz Ali ("The 4400").
Written by Robert Rodriguez, Alex Litvak and Michael Finch, the script follows a group of elite warrior-types who are being hunted by members of a race of merciless alien trackers called Predators. Brody ends up inheriting "the mantle of leader", while Braga will play the tough female killer. Ali plays a "man not afraid to die", Goggins is the loose canon of the group and Taktarov is a former Russian special ops agent. Trejo will play Cuchillo, a hardened warrior with twin uzis strapped to his back. Sounds like Antal and Rodriguez have rounded up a badass cast. This reboot seems to be headed in the right direction so far.
Also in talks for a role in the film is Topher Grace. Yeap, the funny scrawny kid from "That ’70s Show," who bulked up to play Eddie Brock in "Spider-Man 3," may be duking it out with a Predator. His character is reportedly an accountant who’s secretly a serial killer.
It’s a little strange to think of Topher Grace and Adrien Brody playing leads in a "Predator" film but the more I think about it, I can dig it. If both bulk up a bit, I’d like to see them in more serious bad-ass roles.
What do you think of the casting updates?
"Predators" is scheduled to hit theaters July 9, 2010.
More news to come! Catch ya' later!
