Youngblood
No, not that "Youngblood" from 1986 starring Rob Lowe as a hockey player.
This "Youngblood" is based on Rob Liefield's popular graphic novel about a superhero team sanctioned and overseen by the US government.
Guess who is is expected to helm it? Brett Ratner ("X-Men: The Last Stand").
According to Variety, Ratner has now been hired by Indian media conglomerate Reliance to helm the movie adaptation of "Youngblood."
Reliance acquired the film rights to "Youngblood" and has agreed a development deal with Ratner's production company Rat Entertainment, as well as Julia Roberts' Red Om Films, during the Berlin film festival.
“Most of the great graphic novels are gone, and ‘Youngblood’ is one of the few comicbooks left with tentpole potential,” Ratner told Variety. “It was a real personal passion project for me, and a lot of people wanted (‘Youngblood’), but the amazing thing about the guys at Reliance is the speed with which they’re able to move.”
“The great thing with Reliance is they also have the ability to partner up or co-finance the film with a studio,” added Ratner. “It really offers freedom for the talent they’re working with.”
According to The Geek Files, "Ratner has several other fantasy-based projects on the go. Last July he signed on to direct a film version of mythological video game 'God of War,' while he is part of a development deal on a remake of 'Conan' and was in talks to direct 'Harbinger,' a film based on the Valiant comic series about a young psychic trying to stop a superpowered tycoon who wants to conquer the world."
So how will this turn out? I still hear people talking about how great the third X-Men film was, so I'm sure Ratner will be around making new movies, and maybe some will be decent.
More news to come! Catch ya' later!
